Prayer Call: The Power of a True Yes
Good Morning BFB Family!
It was great to be with you this morning in prayer and reflection on God’s Word. For those who couldn’t join us, I want to leave you with the devotion I shared. This week, I invite all of us to spend time thinking about The Power of a True Yes. I encourage you to read Matthew 21 in its entirety, but my focus this morning came from Matthew 21:28–32, the Parable of the Two Sons.
In this parable, a father asks both sons to work in the vineyard. One says “no” but later obeys, while the other says “yes” but never follows through. Jesus asks, “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” The answer is clear! It's the the one who actually obeyed.
This parable reminds us that God is not impressed with lip service. What matters is the power of a true yes...a yes that shows up in obedience, consistency, and transformation. I see three Blockbuster Truths in this parable:
1. Words Don’t Work Without Obedience:
It’s easy to say yes with our mouths but live no with our actions. The second son teaches us that words without obedience don’t carry weight in God’s Kingdom. Perhaps this will make more sense. It’s possible to say yes in church on Sunday and live no from Monday to Saturday. God doesn’t want a performance; He wants obedience!
Think of it like signing up for a gym membership. You can register, get the key tag, buy new sneakers, and even post a picture of your membership card on FaceBook or Instagram, but if you never step foot inside the gym, it doesn’t mean anything. The power of your yes isn’t in saying “I’m a member,” but in showing up to actually train. The same is true with our faith. Our yes must move from words into action.
2. It’s Never Too Late to Say Yes:
The first son initially said no, but later changed his mind and went. That’s good news for us! Even if you have delayed obedience, even if you have hesitated or struggled in the past, it is never too late to say yes to God.
Think about Jonah. When God told him to go to Nineveh, Jonah ran the other way. His first response was no. But after time in the belly of the fish, Jonah realized it was still better to say yes to God’s will. He went on to preach in Nineveh, and the city was spared. Your no doesn’t have to be final. God’s grace still gives you space to turn around. God honors a heart that turns back in repentance. The vineyard is still open and the work is still waiting. Your yes today can redeem the no of yesterday.
3. A True Yes Changes Everything:
When you give God a true yes, it doesn’t just change your life. A true yes can have generational power. A true yes brings Kingdom impact, opens doors of blessing, and becomes a witness to others.
Somebody will be encouraged because of your obedience. Somebody will find hope because you didn’t give up. Somebody will discover Jesus because your yes made room for His glory to shine. That’s the power of a true yes! It transforms you and touches everyone connected to you.
Ohhhh and in case you need the perfect example, just look at Jesus. In Gethsemane, facing the cross, Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” That yes led Him to Calvary. That yes carried the weight of sin. That yes was buried in a borrowed tomb. But early on Sunday morning, that yes broke forth in resurrection power. His yes became our salvation. His yes turned our no into grace. His yes became the doorway to eternal life. So here’s my morning shout: if a true yes could raise Jesus from the dead, imagine what your yes can resurrect in your life.
Remember this Week:
The parable of the two sons shows us that God is after more than words. He’s after obedience. A true yes is not spoken, it is lived. So let your life echo your yes. Don’t just sign up, show up. Because when your yes is true, everything changes.
Have a blessed week and always know...I Love you, and there ain't nothing you can do about it.
