Prayer Call: Humble Hearts and Healing Hands

Good Morning, BFB!

This is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Today's scripture: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” - ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This verse gives us a blueprint on how we should posture ourselves when we go into prayer. This verse calls us to center ourselves on Christ. It tells us that we must humble ourselves - move ourselves out of the way. Turn from our wicked ways, meaning to repent. To repent is more than just asking for forgiveness but it is taking action to turn away from our sins and towards Christ. It calls us to seek God's face - not just ask Him for what we need, but commit to seeking who He is. Four things that we can do to help us center ourselves on Christ:

We can prioritize humility. Humility is the foundation of a life centered on God. We have to acknowledge that we are all dependant on God. We have to depend on God in all areas of our life. When we are not humble, it leaves an opening for pride to set in. It leaves an opportunity for us to try to rely on ourselves instead of the Source of Life - God. When we humble ourselves, we completely surrender to who God is and His power to do all things. Humility allows for us to replace being self-centered with  being God-centered.

We can pursue God in prayer. Prayer is our lifeline and how we directly communicate with God. This verse shows us that it's more than asking God for what we need, but in prayer we must seek Him. Seek out who He is. Seek out His character. Spending time in prayer asking God to reveal Himself to us. Asking Him to increase who He is in our lives, to decrease who we think we are in our lives. Prayer allows to converse with God so He can also speak to us.

We can practice true repentance. This is not just asking God to forgive us of our sins, but praying and asking Him to help us turn away from those sins. Asking Him to reveal what we need to change and asking Him to help us change it. To give us a new heart that desires to please Him. True repentance requires change and desire to intentionally walk in the change that God has made in our lives.

We can proclaim His promises. When we humble ourselves, pray, and repent, God gives us promises that we can rely on. He will do just what He said. He will heal what needs to be healed. He will make whole what has been broken up. When we center ourselves on God, God will be faithful to His promise. His promises will be displayed throughout our lives and His glory will be for all to see.

We pray that as you go through this week, you reflect on your prayer lives. We pray that you will prioritize humility, pursue God in prayer, practice true repentance, and proclaim His promises. We pray that your prayers will help you to center and align yourselves with God's purpose.
