Prayer Call: The ABC's of Rebuilding

Good Morning, BFB!

This is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Today’s scripture focus: “When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the Lord, as prescribed by David king of Israel. With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great should of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.” – Ezra 3:10-11

We are reading about the first exodus from Babylon. The Israelites are on the journey of rebuilding the temple. They have just begun the work, and completed the foundation. Before they continue any further, they take a moment to pause to praise God. In these verses we see that Rebuilding is a journey. Whether it’s a building that been torn down, our faith, relationships, or a call that God has placed on our life, in our rebuilding we must take a pause to praise God. This morning let’s focus on the ABC’s of Rebuilding.

A – Acknowledge God at the beginning. Before the temple was completed, before the work was even on the way – the Israelites stopped to worship. Our rebuilding starts with acknowledging that the God we serve is the foundation. Matthew 6:33 reminds us to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness. He is where we must begin before we move forward with the plans before us. Regardless of what we are rebuilding, are we seeking God first in what we are doing? Everything we do in our rebuilding or building should start with acknowledging God. Acknowledging that it is Him and not us.

B – Believe in the process. You have to have faith in what you are going to do. The Israelites trusted what had already begun would be completed and it would be completed in God’s time. Faith means praising God not just for what He’s already done but praising Him for what He is doing. Even when we can’t see the full picture or the outcome of what He’s doing, we have to faith that God will finish what He started.  What unfinished areas in our lives require us to trust God more deeply? How can your worshipping Him enhance that process? How can you worship Him in the midst of the process?

C – Celebrate God’s promises. In verse 11, the Isaraelites are celebrating God’s promise. God is good and His love for them endures forever. The worship wasn’t just about the current circumstances, it was about a declaration of faith in God’s unchanging goodness. God’s promise to them back then is the same for us today – God’s goodness toward us and His love for us endures forever.  When we refocus on God’s promises instead of our problems, we are reminded that God is still there. We have to celebrate that what God has started in us, individually as well as collectively, He will bring to completion. How can we shift our focus in the challenges we may see to the promises that God has made? How do we celebrate God’s promises?

As we go out, let us focus on the ABC’s of our rebuilding. Let us acknowledge, believe, and celebrate. No matter what we are going through and rebuilding God is right there with us. He was there for us yesterday, He’s there for us today, and He will be there for us forever.
