Prayer Call: Don't Rush What God is Still Doing
Hello BFB Fam & Friends!
As we go throughout the week let's focus on this thought: "Don't Rush What God is Still Doing". Our scripture focus is Genesis 16:2 (NKJV):
"So Sarai said to Abram, "See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her."
The Hard Lesson of Patience
One of the hardest lessons I've learned in life is that patience is a hard teacher. Many of us can relate to that. We've prayed and believed for God to move in our lives, but when He doesn't move as quickly as we expect, we start looking for shortcuts.
It's kind of like when you're driving somewhere important - maybe taking the kids to school - and traffic backs up. In a hurry, you start looking for side roads and shortcuts through town. But often, those "shortcuts" end up costing more time and cause more confusion than if you had just stayed the course.
That's exactly what happened with Abram and Sarai. God had given them a promise - they would have a son. But as time went on and their age increased, their patience decreased. Instead of waiting on God's perfect timing, they tried to make it happen themselves.
The result? Complication, confusion, and consequences they never saw coming.
The Danger of Moving Too Soon
When we grow impatient, we often move before we're ready - and sometimes, before God has finished building the foundation for what's next. Impatience might get us there faster, but it rarely produces something that will last. Here's the truth: God's promises don't need our help - He needs our trust.
All He asks is that we be still, patient, and faithful while He works. Because when we rush ahead of God, we risk creating what I like to call our own Ishmael - a situation born from impatience rather than obedience.
Even in Our Mistakes, God is Merciful
But if you keep reading the story, you'll find the beautiful part: even in our impatience, God's grace still meets us.
Though Ishmael may have been the result of human impatience, God still blessed him. That's the kind of God we serve - even when we mess up, He doesn't just leave us out there. He will let us know that because we tried to shortcut the plan, it may take a little bit longer - but His plan will prevail.
So if you've ever tried to take matters into your own hands and found yourself in a place you didn't intend to be, know this: God hasn't given up on you. He's still working. He's just asking you to wait on Him.
When we rush God's timing, we risk creating something temporary. But when we wait on Him, He builds something that lasts.
When you find yourself being impatient whisper this little prayer:
Lord, teach me to wait. Help me to trust Your timing, even when I can't see what You're doing. Grow my patience and remind me that Your plans are worth the wait.
Amen and Amen.
